How to make a mounting frame

To build a cart you will also need a wheel. If you plan to build a one-wheeled garden wheelbarrow, then prepare one wheel. To create a two-wheeled garden wheelbarrow, you will need two wheels.

The finished box and wheel need to be strengthened on the base. To build the main supporting part of our wheelbarrow, you need to take two identical wooden blocks. The thickness of the timber should be about 3-5 centimeters, and the length should be a meter of 20 centimeters. The bars will automatically become our handles, the edges of which will be convenient to hold on to in order to move the load along summer cottage.
To make it easier to assemble all parts of the cart, it is advisable to place the beams on a flat surface (this could be a table) and connect them together – end to end. And move the opposite ends to the side, the width should be the same as the width of the shoulders of the person who will use the wheelbarrow.
After laying out the beams on a flat surface, place a small diameter wooden beam on top. We outline its outlines using a pencil or marker so as to determine the parallel line on the frame. We mark the place where the wheel is mounted.

Making a wooden wheel

If it is not possible to purchase a metal wheel, you can make a wooden one yourself. For this, hardwood is taken (to avoid rotting). The diameter of the wheel will be 27-28 centimeters.

To assemble the wheel, you need to prepare the planks in advance and plan them. The size of the boards is 30x15x2 centimeters, the number is six pieces. They need to be glued together to form a square. You can glue with regular PVA glue. After gluing, the structure must be placed under a press for 24 hours.
After gluing the square, use a pencil or marker to mark the circle. Before you start drilling the wheel, using bolts, it is advisable to fasten the structure. Drill according to the mark, treat the surface with sandpaper or a rasp.

If the wheelbarrow will be actively used to move heavy objects, then it is better to buy a metal wheel. In principle, the installation of both a wooden wheel and a finished metal one with a rubber tire is no different.

How to mount the wheel and frame

To attach the wheel to the wheelbarrow, you need to connect the bars using a spacer. It is installed so that the wheel can be inserted. If the wheel width is about 5-6 centimeters, then the distance should be 8-9 centimeters. Therefore, the spacer can be prepared in advance, sawed down, especially at the ends, and attached with bolts to the beams.
To mount the wheel, you can use a long metal rod (pin) that has a thread (thread length up to 200 mm. You also need to prepare four washers and nuts with a diameter of up to 14 mm.
It is necessary to make a hole for the rod at the end of the beams. And drill a hole in the middle of the wheel larger than the diameter of the stud. Next, we assemble and secure the wheel with a washer and nut. The stud should be well secured; you can check this with a wrench. If it is loose, tighten it with two keys.

If you are assembling a wheelbarrow from metal, its body must be welded to the frame using a welding machine.

Assembly

Turn the wheelbarrow box over and place the base with the wheel installed on top, but so that the wheel does not reach the box itself. Using a marker or pencil, mark where the frame lies. This is necessary for cutting wooden wedges. Their thickness should be about 5 centimeters, twice as wide. They need to be attached along the marked lines to the box with bolts and the base with the wheel must be attached with wedges.

The finished wheelbarrow must be coated with drying oil. This way the tree will last much longer and will be protected from rotting.

Assembling a metal wheelbarrow

We assemble a garden wheelbarrow from metal. This design will be much more durable and will last for many years. It can be used both during harvesting and during construction to move sand and cement.

It’s not difficult to make a metal wheelbarrow with your own hands. All that is needed is the presence of a welding machine and the skills to operate it.

For example, a garden wheelbarrow can be welded from sheet metal 1-2 mm thick. First, you need to assemble a body from a sheet and then attach a wheel and handle to it. If a large load is expected on the wheelbarrow, it is advisable to install a powerful wheel, for example, from an old moped, bicycle or even motorcycle.

Let's start making the car. We take a sheet of steel one meter by two, 1 mm thick. You need to purchase wheels in advance with a diameter of up to 40 cm; choose ones that already have bearings installed.

The box can be made of any size, with a capacity of about 100 liters.

To complete the work accurately, you need to draw a sketch, apply dimensions, and indicate all the details.

For work you will need a welding machine and a grinder. The sheet needs to be “cut” according to the sketch and the box welded. Make support posts from a metal corner measuring 25x25; instead of a corner, you can take a piece of metal pipe of the required diameter.
