Prayer to the Monk Luke of Crimea for health

Any Orthodox monk can tell you what miraculous power the prayer to Luka Krymsky has for health. The talent for medicine and the invaluable gift of foresight of the Archbishop of Crimea elevated him to the rank of associates of God, capable of helping the laity even after his death.

The life of the righteous Saint Luke (in the world - Valentin Feliksovich Voyno-Yasenetsky) fell on a time rich in significant events for Russia (the end of the 19th-20th centuries). Valentin was born in the family of a Kerch pharmacist, therefore, it is not surprising that he chose surgery as his profession.

Extensive medical practice in different cities and villages allowed the young surgeon to quickly take a place of honor among the scientists of medicine. He came to faith after the untimely death of his wife Anna Voyno-Yasenetskaya, who suffered from tuberculosis.

Three times during his righteous monastic life the saint was arrested, tortured and exiled.

But everywhere he found a way to heal people and never complained about his fate. And now a prayer to Luka Krymsky near his grave brings healing and relief to all the sick and infirm.

What do they pray to St. Luke

The laity turn in prayer to the Archbishop of Crimea on various issues. They rely on him in the most advanced cases of various illnesses, ask him to strengthen the spirit before the devilish temptations, pray to endow him with patience and humility in the face of blows of fate (divorce, death of loved ones, loss of work), conjure to reason with unbelievers and people who have been influenced by sects.

As the patron saint of medical and social workers, St. Luke is able to help sincerely praying parishioners in many life situations. The text of the prayer contains a request to the saint to intercede before the Lord for those who pray and bless, delivering from the wiles of the evil one.

Most often, Orthodox Christians use the prayer to St. Luke for health. This fact is directly related to cases of healing of seriously ill patients, known both during the life of the saint and after he was canonized as a saint. Luka Krymsky could heal all kinds of eye ailments with prayer, restoring sight to the believers; he did an excellent job of diagnosing tumors without analyzing them, determining their benign or malignant nature.

How healing prayer helps Luka Krymsky

One of the miracles that happened thanks to the prayer for health is described in the report of Father Nectarios, who serves at the Greek monastery of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

In the summer of 2009, a young girl underwent a complex operation to replace a heart valve. Everything didn't go as well as expected. According to the doctor's forecast, the patient had to stay in intensive care for two days after the operation. But her condition did not improve, the girl lay in a coma for 27 days.

The prayer to St. Luke for health, which her parents began to read on the advice of a close friend, brought the illness back to life.

The nurses who were on duty in the intensive care unit on the night of the girl's awakening said that they saw a strange doctor dressed in an old-fashioned gown that doctors had not worn for a long time. The doctor silently walked into the ward to the girl. When the sisters on duty went to the patient's room, they found that no one had gone there, and the patient had already regained consciousness. Two days later, the patient was fully aware of what was happening and went on the mend.

It is customary to read a prayer for health when a tumor is suspected, before surgical operations, when doctors refuse to treat advanced stages of oncological diseases, with congenital childhood ailments, and in many other cases. The effect of prayer will be much stronger if the patient can be communed and taken to the grave of the saint or to the relics of Luke, which are located in the Holy Trinity Cathedral of Simferopol.

Through reading prayers, a person is filled with divine energy - a light that washes away all negativity and fills every cell of the body with health. After repeated fiery pronunciation of the prayer text, the sick are recovering sharply, faith in the healing of people with the help of the saint is so strong and effective.

As head of the surgical department of a provincial hospital, he saw the death of some patients from improper anesthesia. This forced him to conduct research and develop methods for safe anesthesia. Any work was argued in the hands of a skilled doctor: hundreds of people healed by his hands carried the fame of a surgeon far beyond the cities where he worked.

The secret of St. Luke's professionalism was hidden in a good education, diligence and the Orthodox faith absorbed from childhood. Valentine (the worldly name of the Saint) loved God, often prayed, read the Gospel and strove to lead others to the same. When faith was opposed to science, a learned professor and practicing physician found the strength to show by deed that science without God is stupidity and superstition.

For his work in medicine, St. Luke was also awarded the Stalin Prize. He spent most of the money on children left orphans after the war, and sent the rest to everyone who asked for help. The kindness and generosity of the bishop-physician was widely known. One day, an unfamiliar woman from Tashkent sent a letter to Vladyka asking him to send good embroidery threads. This did not in the least embarrass the elder, burdened with cares: the request was fulfilled.

The whole life of Luka Krymsky shows his deep faith and love for people. Having earned glory in heaven, now he heals patients with a more faithful instrument than a scalpel - the power of God. Will he not hear the prayers offered even now by the weak and needy?

Miracles through the prayers of St. Luke, healing of children and adults

Vladyka passed away in 1961. In this anti-religious time, crowds of people came to see him off on his last journey, and the authorities could not prevent this. But the Saint did not have to lie in the grave for long: 30 years later he was glorified as a saint and his relics were transferred to the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Simferopol. During these 30 years, testimonies of the miraculous help of the late bishop-physician did not stop, although the authorities prevented their distribution. After the glorification of the Saint and the acquisition of the relics, stories of miracles began to be recorded.

A woman from Georgia who suffered from migraine spent all her money on treatment and did not feel relief. A relative prompted her to ask for help from St. Luke, brought an icon and oil from the relics from the Crimea. The sick woman began to pray fervently, every day she smeared herself with oil, and read an akathist to the saint. A month passed, the migraine did not go away, but the woman did not despair, knowing that St. Luke could not refuse her. One night, in her dream, she felt as if someone was performing surgery on her head. Everything was “for real”: the injection, the pain, the suturing, and the burning of the wound. The next morning the sufferer woke up completely healthy.

An unhealthy child was born in one family. He needed many surgeries to survive. Relatives were very worried, but it never occurred to anyone to pray to Luka Krymsky, they never really prayed. One day, the godmother of a child accidentally entered the church and was struck by the “living” look of St. Luke from the icon directed at her: “why don’t you pray?”.

Taking this as a sign, the godmother began to read prayers and an akathist. The first operations were successful, the problems seemed to disappear by themselves. The most difficult was ahead, the doctors did not vouch for success. The child's parents began to look for another clinic, but the godmother dissuaded them. She clearly heard the words of the saint: “I said that I would take care of it!”. Leaving the child with the former surgeon was a feat of faith for the little sufferer's family. And they received an award: the most difficult operation on the head went without complications.

A mother of many children from the Moscow region, Yulia, often had to carry strollers and children to the fourth floor, as a result of which she developed an umbilical hernia. The diagnosis was absolutely accurate: the woman was in pain, the doctor prescribed her an immediate operation. Julia was worried: there was no one to leave the children with, they were just about to go on vacation to the Crimea, to their parents. Remembering the holy doctor, Julia prayed to him and decided to postpone the operation until the end of the holidays.

Arriving with children in Simferopol, the woman went to the Trinity Cathedral. The day before, she had learned a prayer in order to say it before the relics of St. Luke, but when she approached the shrine, she forgot all the words. The woman felt peace and tranquility in her soul, she did not want to ask for anything.

Arriving at her parents' house, Julia found a local doctor who came to examine her father. At the same time, the doctor undertook to examine her hernia, after which he was surprised: “You don’t have any hernia!”. The second, more detailed examination also confirmed the complete absence of the disease. Then Julia remembered that the pain had passed at the moment when she approached the shrine of St. Luke in the cathedral.

Yevgeny, a student of the Moscow Theological Seminary, returning to the hostel in the dark evening, was severely beaten by unknown people. The bandits threw him to the ground and beat him on the head with sticks. Miraculously, Eugene survived, he was found by passers-by and taken to the hospital. Doctors did not give any chances: a lot of skull fractures, bruises of the brain. Fellow students of the young man and teachers of the seminary stood up to pray to the Lord, the Mother of God and St. Luke. As a result, almost hopeless operations on the head were successful. Soon, Eugene continued his studies at the seminary, and in his homeland, in Lyubertsy, a house church was opened in the name of St. Luke.

How to ask the Saint for a successful operation and recovery of a child or adult

Prayer to Saint Luke before the operation

O all-blessed confessor, our holy hierarch Luko, the great saint of Christ. With tenderness, bow down the knees of our hearts, and falling to the race of your honest and multi-healing relics, like a child of the father, we pray with all your heart: hear us sinners and bring our prayer to the merciful and philanthropic God, to whom you are now in the joy of the saints and with the faces of an angel stand . We believe more, because you love us with the same love that you loved all your neighbors while on earth.

Ask Christ our God, and confirm His children in the spirit of right faith and piety: may shepherds be given holy zeal and care for the salvation of the people entrusted to them: observe the right of the believer, strengthen the weak and weak in faith, instruct the ignorant, and rebuke the opposite.

Give us all a gift that is useful to everyone, and everything is even useful for temporary life and eternal salvation: our cities are affirmed, the land is fruitful, deliverance from gladness and destruction, consolation for those who are in pain, healing for those who have lost their way on the path of truth, blessing for a parent, a child in fear The Lord's upbringing and teaching, help and intercession to the orphans and the poor.

Grant us all your Archpastoral blessing, and if we have such a prayer intercession, we will get rid of the wiles of the evil one and avoid all enmity and discord, heresies and schisms. Lead us on the path leading to the villages of the righteous, and pray for us to the almighty God, in eternal life we will be able to glorify with you the consubstantial and indivisible Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In addition to the prayer service ordered in the temple, you can also pray at home:

  • to read an akathist or pray at home, it is better to purchase a small icon of St. Luke of Crimea and install it in the “red corner”. There must also be an icon of the Lord, for healing comes from Him. Saint Luke is only a prayer book before Him;
  • light a lamp or a candle - a symbol of "burning of the spirit" in prayer;
  • a woman - put on a scarf, stand right in front of the icons. To pacify the senses, the holy fathers advise to stand silently for a while, looking at the fire of a candle;
  • say “Lord, have mercy” three times with the sign of the cross, then read the text of the akathist and prayer, thinking through each word and bowing with the sign of the cross.
  • after reading the established texts, you can ask the saint in your own words, for example: “Holy confessor Luko, pray to the Lord, direct the hand of the surgeon and give healing to the servant of God (baby or youth) ...”.

Attention! In the Holy Trinity Convent in Simferopol, where the relics of St. Luke are kept, custom-made prayers and commemorations are accepted. In case of an urgent operation, you can call by phone, in ordinary cases - write an e-mail.

There you can also ask to send oil from the holy relics. Oil should be anointed after prayer, applied crosswise on the forehead or sore spot to an adult or child. At the same time, the pronunciation: “To the Hierarch Father Luko, pray to God for us!”

Small things are consecrated in the monastery: belts, hats, which are given to believers with a blessing from the Saint.

Lying in the hospital, it is better to devote your free time to reading the book of Archbishop Luke Voyno-Yasenetsky “I Loved Suffering”, collections of his sermons.

At the end of his life, being almost blind, Bishop Luke continued to receive the sick. His diagnoses were surprisingly accurate, since they were no longer made by professional skills, but by the power of God. Especially now, communicating with the Lord in heaven, St. Luke will not be slow to come to the rescue.

(1877–1961)

Saint Luke, in the world Valentin Feliksovich (Voyno-Yasenetsky) was born in Kerch on April 27, 1877. He was the third child in the family, and there were five children in total.

Valentine's father, Felix Stanislavovich, belonged to the Catholic Church. By profession he was a pharmacist. Mother, Maria Dmitrievna, professed the true, Orthodox faith.

According to the foundations that had developed by that time in Russia regarding the upbringing of children born in mixed marriages, Valentine's personality was formed in line with Orthodox traditions. His father, in general, did not object to such an approach and did not impose his own worldview on his son. The religious foundations were taught to him by his mother.

In 1889 the Voyno-Yasenetsky family moved to Kyiv. Here Valentine, with the help of God, graduated from two educational institutions: a gymnasium and a drawing (art) school.

Thinking about choosing a future life path, he considered two priority options: to become an artist or a doctor. Already at the stage of readiness to enter the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, he changed his mind and decided to devote his strength to medicine. The most important selection criterion was the desire to alleviate suffering for people. In addition, he believed that in the place of a doctor he would bring more benefits to society.

In 1898, Valentin entered the Kiev University, the Faculty of Medicine. He studied well, as befitted a capable person who did in respect future profession considered choice. He graduated from the university in 1903. A good career could open before him, which many less talented peers could only dream of. But he, to the surprise of his entourage, announced that he wanted to become a zemstvo, "peasant" doctor.

Medical practice

With the beginning of the Russian-Japanese war, Valentin Feliksovich, having accepted the proposal of the leadership, went to the Far East to participate in the activities of the Red Cross detachment. There he headed the Department of Surgery at the Kyiv Red Cross Hospital deployed in Chita. In this position, V. Voyno-Yasenetsky gained tremendous medical experience.

During the same period, he met and connected with the bonds of love with the sister of mercy, the kind and meek Christian Anna Lanskaya. By that time, she had refused two doctors who sought her female attention, and, as they say, she was ready to live her life in sacred celibacy. But Valentin Feliksovich managed to reach her heart. In 1904, the young couple got married in a local Chita church. Over time, Anna became a faithful assistant to her husband, not only in family matters, but also in doctoral practice.

After the war, V. Voyno-Yasenetsky fulfilled his long-standing desire to become a zemstvo doctor. In the period from 1905 to 1917, he worked in urban and rural hospitals, in different regions of the country: in the Simbirsk province, then in Kursk, Saratov, on the territory of Ukraine, and finally, in Pereyaslavl-Zalessky.

In 1908, Valentin Feliksovich arrived in Moscow, got a job in the surgical clinic of P. Dyakonov as an external student.

In 1916 he finished writing and successfully defended his doctoral dissertation. The topic of that doctoral work turned out to be so important and relevant, and its content so deep and elaborated, that one of the scientists in admiration compared it to the singing of a bird. Warsaw University then honored V. Voyno-Yasenetsky with a special prize.

Post-revolutionary years

The first years after the October Revolution were literally bloody. During this difficult time, the state experienced a special need for medical workers. So, despite the commitment to the faith, for some time Valentin Feliksovich was not persecuted.

From 1917 to 1923 he lived in Tashkent, worked as a surgeon in the Novogorodsk hospital. He willingly shared his experience with his students, taught at a medical school (later reorganized into a medical faculty).

During this period, a serious test for V. Voyno-Yasenetsky turned out to be the death of his beloved wife, who died of tuberculosis in 1919, and left four children without maternal care.

In 1920, Valentin Feliksovich accepted an offer to head a department at the State Turkestan University, recently opened in Tashkent.

priestly ministry

In addition to performing official and family duties during this period, he took an active part in church life, attended meetings of the Tashkent Brotherhood. Once, after a successful report by V. Voyno-Yasenetsky at a church congress, Bishop Innokenty of Tashkent expressed his wish that he become a priest. V. Voyno-Yasenetsky, who did not think about such a variant of his life path, suddenly answered the bishop without delay that he agreed, if it was pleasing to God.

In 1921 he was ordained a deacon, and a few days later a priest. Having become a priest, Father Valentin was appointed to a local Tashkent church, where he served, pleasing God. At the same time, he did not interrupt either medical or teaching practice.

In 1923, the Renovation movement that had unfolded under the Church reached Tashkent. Bishop Innokenty, due to a number of related reasons, left the city without transferring leadership of the cathedra to anyone. During this difficult period for the clergy and flock, Father Valentin, together with priest Mikhail Andreev, made every effort to unite the local clergy and even took part in organizing the congress (sanctioned by the GPU).

Monastic and episcopal ministry

In the same year, 1923, Father Valentin, driven by zeal and piety, took monastic vows. It is reported that initially Bishop Andrei (Ukhtomsky) of Ufa intended to give him the monastic name Panteleimon, in honor of the Christian healer glorified by God, but then, after listening to his sermons, he changed his mind and opted for the name Evangelist, doctor and apostle Luke. So Father Valentine became Hieromonk Luke.

At the end of May of the same year, Hieromonk Luka was secretly appointed Bishop of Penjikent, and a few days later he was arrested because of his support for the line of Patriarch Tikhon. The accusation brought against him today seems not only far-fetched, but also absurd: the authorities accused him of having counter-revolutionary connections with some Orenburg Cossacks and of collaborating with the British.

For some time the arrested saint languished in the dungeon of the Tashkent GPU, and then he was taken to Moscow. Soon he was allowed to live on private apartment, but then they were taken into custody again: first to the Butyrka prison, and then to the Taganskaya prison. Then the sufferer was sent into exile on the Yenisei.

In Yeniseisk, he served at home. In addition, he was allowed to operate, and he saved the health of more than one inhabitant. Several times the saint was transferred from one place to another. But even there he used every opportunity to serve God and heal people.

After the end of the exile, Bishop Luka returned to Tashkent, served in the local church. But the Soviet authorities were not going to leave the bishop alone. In May 1931, he was arrested again and after spending several months in prison, he heard the verdict: exile to Arkhangelsk for a period of three years. In Arkhangelsk, he also treated the sick.

Returning from prison, in 1934 he visited the city of Tashkent, and then settled in Andijan. Here he performed the duty of a bishop and physician. A fever turned into misfortune for him: the disease threatened with loss of vision, and the saint went for an operation (as a patient), as a result of which he became blind in one eye.

In December 1937 another arrest followed. The saint was interrogated for several days in a row, they demanded to sign the protocols prepared in advance by the investigation. In response, he went on a hunger strike, flatly refusing to sign anything that his Christian conscience could not agree with. A new sentence followed, a new exile, this time to Siberia.

From 1937 to 1941, the convicted bishop lived in the town of Bolshaya Murta, on the territory of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War he was moved to Krasnoyarsk and brought to the treatment of the wounded.

In 1943, the saint ascended the Krasnoyarsk archbishop's cathedra, and a year later he was appointed archbishop of Tambov and Michurinsky. During this period, the attitude of the authorities towards the saint seemed to have changed. In February 1946, for scientific developments in the field of medicine, he was awarded the state award - the Stalin Prize.

In May 1946, Saint Luke became Archbishop of Crimea and Simferopol. At this time, his eye disease began to progress, and in 1958 he became completely blind. However, as eyewitnesses recall, in this state the saint not only did not lose his good spirits, but also did not lose the ability to independently come to the temple, venerate shrines, and participate in divine services.

On June 11, 1961, the Lord called him to His Heavenly Kingdom. The saint was buried at the Simferopol cemetery.

After himself, he left a number of scientific and theological works. Among the latter, it is appropriate to note:, Lord's,.

The text of the prayer to St. Luke of Crimea for recovery

O all-blessed confessor, our holy hierarch Luko, the great saint of Christ. With tenderness, bow down the knees of our hearts, and falling to the race of your honest and multi-healing relics, like a child of the father, we pray to you wholeheartedly: hear us sinners and bring our prayer to the Merciful and Humane God. To him you are now in the joy of the saints and with the faces of an angel you stand. We believe more, because you love us with the same love, with which you loved all your neighbors, being on earth.

Ask Christ our God to confirm His children in the spirit of right faith and piety: may shepherds be given holy zeal and care for the salvation of the people entrusted to them: observe the right of the believer, strengthen the weak and weak in faith, instruct the ignorant, and rebuke the opposite. Give us all a gift that is useful to everyone, and all the same for temporary life and for eternal salvation useful.

Our cities are affirmation, the land is fruitful, deliverance from prosperity and destruction. Consolation to the grieving, healing to those who are ill, return to the path of truth, blessing to the parent, upbringing and teaching to the children in the fear of the Lord, help and intercession to the orphans and the poor.

Grant us all your archpastoral blessing, and have such a prayer intercession, let us get rid of the wiles of the evil one and avoid all enmity and discord, heresies and schisms.

Guide us on the path leading to the villages of the righteous, and pray for us to the almighty God, that in eternal life we will be able to glorify with you the unceasingly glorifying the Consubstantial and Indivisible Trinity, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
