The second problem is more fun. To flash the phone, you must first unlock its unloader. Fortunately, this can be done officially, through HTCDev.com (choose Unlock Bootloader). But here, too, everything is true only for Windows. And not just Windows, but only XP or 7. Because on our eight, the drivers for the phone simply did not work. We have already downloaded everything that could be found on the Internet: Android SDK, HTC SDK, HTC Sync, and the left software for flashing and searching for phone drivers. Nothing helped. They thought that the problem was either in the system or in the handset. Fortunately, it turned out to be the first. Therefore, if you are sitting on Windows 8, do not even try to do anything.
In general, everything is quite simple. The only thing that does not please is that under Windows there are too many actions to be performed. Under OSX/Linux, everything turned out to be many times easier and faster: no SDK, no crap with software. Only one file and console.
And so, what do we need for the firmware? Considering that no forums provide adequate instructions, I will write everything here. The information is valid for all operating systems.
The first step is to unlock the bootloader. You can do this by following the link above. Please note that if your phone does not go into fastboot usb mode, then the problem is in the system - it does not find a driver for it and you need to look for another computer. There are no other options.
After that, you need to flash a new Recovery, which will allow you not only to update the system, but also to backup, restore or reinstall it from any ZIP archives with firmware that are in your phone's memory.
I used NoName Recovery, which I found on the Internet. Interestingly, it was the only one that worked for my version of the bootloader (HBOOT 1.28, which works with Android 4). You can download it.
To flash the new recovery, we need the same fastboot file that we downloaded earlier to determine the bootloader key. We need to connect the phone in fastboot usb mode and write the following code in the console: fastboot flash recovery recovery_for_1.28.img and under OSX / Linux, you must specify the paths to the fastboot and img files directly. Two lines ending with Okay (in the console) will notify you about a successful firmware, while the phone will not show anything. Now we need to reboot the phone and upload the firmware to the root of the flash drive: Edited MIUI XL (download it in the form in which you download. You don’t need to unpack anything)
Now we need to reboot into recovery again and select install zip from sdcard from the menu, then select our file and confirm the firmware. Everything will take no more than two minutes, after which it will be written in the console at the bottom of the screen that the firmware update was successful. Now we need to return to the previous menu and select Wipe Data - we also confirm this action (otherwise we get a brick - the phone simply will not turn on). It is not necessary to do S-OFF, as they say on various forums - the firmware is already rooted and we do not need any extra actions. We can safely select the Reboot item. It will take up to five minutes for the phone to boot up, after which we will have a clean MIUI. I advise you to immediately skip the initial setup and install the keyboard through MassStorage (do not forget to enable Unknown Sources in the security settings). I use this program: Swift Keyboard 3 (unzip to the root of the memory card and install through the file manager). After that, you can already start setting up your phone. I'm still sitting on this firmware for less than a day. It seems to work well. Nothing crashed, nothing hung, and in general everything is fine. Particularly pleased with almost 500 free megabytes of RAM after 200 on the native firmware.
Also, please note that this firmware can be installed using the method I described only if your phone has ALREADY been updated to Android 4.0.3 (official) and so far the Russian language is not supported (only English). If you are upgrading from the second android, then you will get a brick and you may not even be able to enter the boot. In addition, all data on your phone will be deleted and you will not be able to restore the recovery to the native version, which deprives you of the warranty for the device. All actions you carry out at your own peril and risk.
